Producer profile:
Small family-run winery located in the heart of Collio, in Capriva del Friuli. They have been cultivating vines since 1964, the year in which Ivaldo Orzan purchased the first vineyard that had previously belonged to his grandfather and began producing the first artisanal wines out of passion. The company is made up of 5 hectares of vineyards between the Collio hills and the stony plains of the Isonzo. The vineyards are grassed and the mowing is manual or mechanical, they do not use chemical herbicides and most of the treatments to control fungi and mold are based on copper and sulphur. The company uses electricity from certified renewable sources; for some wines they still use the old family hand press. Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio are grown where, one day in ancient times, a man lost his greenstone axe. Here, over 3000 lithic artefacts dating back to periods between the Paleolithic and the Copper Age were brought to the surface by agricultural work in 1967.
